Happy 4th of July Weekend

I just want to wish everyone, far and near, a Happy and Safe Fourth of July weekend this year. I have always enjoyed this holiday celebrating the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence, plus all of the things associated with it; fireworks, cookouts, bands playing, flags waving, watermelon and ice cream to name a few. However this year finds Texas, and many parts of the southwest, under a drought and a severe fire-warning limiting the places one can enjoy the celebration. My hopes and prayers go out those living and fighting the fires in New Mexico.

For the Houston area the biggest and best fireworks display is the Freedom over Texas in downtown Houston at Eleanor Tinsley Park on Buffalo Bayou. This celebration runs from 4 – 10 PM on July 4th and includes headliners like Jack Ingram, Chris Young and Rodney Atkins for entertainment along with the largest fireworks display with the downtown skyline as a backdrop. It really is a great event, but get there early because traffic is always a problem.

There are three venues to choose from a little closer to home for me in Sugar Land. On July 3rd, Sugar Creek Country Club puts on an excellent little celebration with a nice fireworks display over the golf course. Then on Monday, July 4th, you can have the choice of Sugar Land’s Red, White and Bluefest at Oyster Creek Park off of SH-6 and Settlers Way, or Missouri City’s 4th of July Celebration at Buffalo Run Park which is southwest of Beltway-8 and Fondren on Buffalo Run Blvd.

For more information on what might be in your area click HERE, since The Woodlands, Lake Jackson, Magnolia, Tomball and Rosenberg celebrations have been cancelled.
