Three Amigos at Surfside

The other day, my wife and I, along with our dog Shadow, traveled down to Surfside, Texas to meet up with some friends surfing off the jetty. They’re surfing “Legends” Kelly and Jeff and Kelly’s girlfriend “Cooha” Jenn. Kelly and Jeff have surfed since they were kids and have been on a few surfaris together chasing the waves. The reason they are “Legends” is that they are over fifty and still surfing. While Jenn has not been surfing that long, she is “Cooha” because she is a surfer babe who’s not afraid to mix it up with the dudes on the waves. That is as “gnarly”...

Sugar Land | DOG PARK

One of my favorite places to go with our dog Shadow is the dog park at Sugar Land Memorial Park which is south of Highway 59 at the end of University Blvd. We take Shadow there to run, play, swim, and socialize with other dogs and people three or four times a week. It is 4 or 5 acres fenced that the dogs can run off the leash with separate areas for both large and small dogs, a pond for swimming, trees, rocks and even a fire hydrant, plus two cleaning stalls that make it easy to give your pooch a good bath. They even provide the poop bags so can do your part to keep the dog park clean after...

The ROUXPOUR

The Rouxpour Restaurant and Bar in the Sugar Land Town Square has become one of my favorite places to eat in Sugar Land. It opened last June, and I have slowly eaten my way through the entire menu. Its food and ambience is right out of New Orleans’ finest restaurants. It has, what I would call, a cozy open-air jazz motif that opens up on to two patios surrounded in wrought iron. Central to the interior is a copper topped horseshoe bar above which are large (55 inch) HDTVs to watch your favorite sporting venues. You can also expect music from a jazz combo during their Sunday brunch and some...

Sugar Land Kite Festival

Back in March, my wife and I took our dog, Shadow, to the Sugar Land Memorial Park where they have a very nice dog park for your pet to run, swim and socialize with other pets, and low and behold, the park was jammed packed with people flying kites. It looked really cool seeing all those kites up in the air, and fortunately for me, I had my camera with me. So while my wife was running Shadow in the dog park, I was walking around taking pictures of the 2nd Annual Cultural Kite Festival. One of my favorite pictures I took that day was of this juggler on stilts dressed in black. After talking to...

DOG BEACH | San Diego

I have been remiss about updating my blog lately, so in the next few days I hope to remedy that problem with some new posts sharing some experiences since last Christmas. I thought I would start out with Dog Beach, which is a leash free area to run your dog on the shore of the Pacific Ocean just north of San Diego. My wife Kim and I, along with our dog Shadow, spent a wonderful couple of weeks at her mother’s house on Point Loma in San Diego over Christmas and New Year’s Holidays. It was our first road trip with just Shadow since losing our black lab Splash in October. Shadow is a dog we...
